Puting on the kippah and remebering the dead
Jews are wonderful at remembering the dead. Even the non-religious enter synagogues and don kippot or yarmulkes to say Yizkor. On Holocaust Remembrance Day, even the most hedonistic Tel Avivers do not mind that the stores, restaurants, and gyms are closed. A nation that is usually divided about everything stands united to attention during the siren sounded in commemoration of the Holocaust. Violators of these protocols would more quickly be ostracized from our community than criminals.
With all of these reminders, it seems impossible that we as a nation could have forgotten the an important part of Holocaust remembrance - the survivors. The fact that two-thirds of the survivors now live below the poverty line. Many of them have to choose between buying their medicine and paying the electricity bill. So lets do something
