Chanukah Gifts

Chanukah Gifts

Chanukah is the Jewish festival of lights. It is an eight day celebration and the most popular of all Jewish holidays. As with Christmas, and many other holidays, gift giving has become a central part of Chanukah celebrations. There are no rules as to the type of gift that one gives or receives, and who must be gifted, and all families engage in gift giving in different ways. Chanukah gift giving does not have to have any religious significance, and therefore can be celebrated and enjoyed by people of all religious and cultural backgrounds. Engaging in Chanukah gift giving can be a fun way to celebrate the holiday with friends, family, and co-workers.

Exchanging Chanukah gifts can be an opportunity to socialize and present people you care about with gifts. Some families exchange gifts for the eight days that the festival lasts. Usually, if this is the case, the gifts are usually smaller and less expensive. Other families may exchange gifts on only one day, and usually that gift is bigger and more expensive. However, there are no rules as to the type, size or price of the gift, and it is all a matter of personal preference and budget. Presenting someone with a Chanukah gift can make them feel special, and therefore is a nice way to show someone that they matter to you.

When thinking about what to present someone as Chanukah gifts, think about what things they want, need or like. You can also make homemade gifts such as candles or a jar of homemade cookies. Wrapping the gifts before presenting can make the experience of exchanging gifts more fun and exciting. Regardless of what the gift is, engaging in Chanukah gift giving is simply a fun way of telling someone that they are special to you, as it is the thought that counts.
